Practice Using a Windows 10 Virtual Computer

We now have Windows 10 virtual computers that are available for employees to practice with! For those employees whose main GC computer is a virtual Windows computer, this will be an opportunity for you to experience and learn how to use Windows 10 at your own pace prior to ITS migrating your virtual computer to Windows 10 this summer. ITS is still in the process of putting together other training materials in the form of written and workshop formats.

The virtual Windows 10 computers are “persistent,” meaning if you make any modifications to it during this practice phase, such as changing settings, saving items, etc., the modifications will be in place the next time that you reconnect to it. It may be possible that the virtual Windows 10 computer that you practice with will become your actual Windows 10 computer at the time that we do the migration this summer. However, is also possible that any changes that you make during the practice phase will be removed when we do your actual migration. Please keep this in mind as you practice with a virtual Windows 10 computer.

For those employees who use a Mac, or a MacBook as your primary GC computer, but from time to time use a virtual Windows computer for purposes of accessing specific Windows software, or for off-campus access, feel free to also practice with a virtual Windows 10 computer.

How to connect to a virtual Window 10 computer

Instructions for employees whose main GC computer is a virtual Windows computer:

  • When you log on to your computer, from the available list of virtual computers to connect to, click on Win10-Offices and then click the Connect button. You will then be connected to a virtual Windows 10 computer.
    * If you don’t see this option and you are instead automatically connected to your current Windows 7 computer, contact the Help Desk at ext. 7700 for further assistance.

Instructions when connecting from a Mac, mobile device, or from off-campus:

  • Start up the VMware Horizon Client application. If you don't have the VMWare Horizon Client, you can install it on your computer by going to https://view.goshen.edu/ and then clicking on the "Install VMWare Horizon Client" option. From an iPad, go to the App Store and search for VMWare Horizon Client. From an Android device, go to the Google Play store and search for VMWare Horizon Client. 
  • Double-click view.goshen.edu (if you’ve never connected before from a computer, click the + button, then enter view.goshen.edu and then click Connect. If you’ve never connected before from an iPad or Android device, enter view.goshen.edu into the Server Address field, and then tap Add Server.)
  • Enter in your GC username and password and click Login.
  • Double-click Win10-Offices. You will then be connected to a virtual Windows 10 computer.

To sign out of the Windows 10 computer, click the Start button, and then click the profile icon, and choose Sign out.
