Install Local Printer Port

installing a local printer port

Part 1:
Go to start->settings->printers and scanners>add printer
Click next
Select local printer attached to this computer
Leave the box under that setting unchecked for "Automatically detect my plug and play printer"
Click next
Click LPT:1 port (recommended)
Find driver in the list
Select make and model of printer
Use the name they have or change it
Do Not Share
No Test page

Part 2:
Go to start->settings->printers and scanners
Find the printer in the list of printers and right click on it and choose properties
Click on the ports tab at the top and then click add port
Local- new port
Enter port name- it will be exactly how the printer is listed in GC print server - example \\gcprintserver\scc-colorlaser
Check that new port is selected and click apply
If you didn't earlier but want to now, you can change the printer name under the general tab
