Forward your office extension to an outside line
Posted by Patricia Goodman on 16 March 2020 10:51 AM

Sometimes it is necessary to forward your office extension to an outside line (eg. a land line or cell phone) so that you can continue to receive calls while away from your office. Note that you can  set this up yourself if you only have one extension set up on your office phone. If your office phone has more than one extension (eg. yours and your department's main line), you will need to get assistance from the Help Desk to set up forwarding.

  1. from your office phone, on the display screen, locate the two horizontal dots and press the button directly below them.
  2. on the display screen, locate "Forward All" and press the button directly below it.
  3. enter in the phone number to forward your extension to. You must enter in 9  and then 1 and then the area code and number.

To cancel the forwarding of your extension,

  1. from your office phone, on the display screen, locate the two horizontal dots and press the button directly below them.
  2. on the display screen, locate "Forward Off" and press the button directly below it.

Caveats:

If your office phone has more than one extension (eg. yours and your department's main line), you will need to get assistance from the Help Desk to set up forwarding. Contact the Help Desk at (574) 535-7700.

If you have it set so that your voice mail messages are arriving as a message attachment in your GC email account, if you set your office extension to forward to an outside line, the voice mail to email message will no longer work and any voice mail messages that are left with your office extension will arrive as a voice mail message on the phone line that your extension is forwarded to. At the point that you unforward your extension from the outside line, voice mail to email is automatically restored.
