One easy way to improve browsing speeds is to disable Hardware Acceleration. Note that this is not recommended if you plan to do anything graphically intensive in your browser.

Chrome:

  1. Click the three horizontal "setting" bars underneath the X in the top right of the windows.
  2. Click Settings
  3. Scroll to the bottom of the Settings windows and click "Advanced"
  4. Scroll to the very bottom of the Settings window
  5. Under the System heading uncheck use hardware acceleration when available.
  6. Restart Chrome

Firefox:

  1. Click the three horizontal "setting" bars underneath the X in the top right of the windows.
  2. Click Options
  3. In the column on the left click Advanced
  4. Uncheck the box that says "Use hardware acceleration when available", under the "General" tab
  5. Restart Firefox
